I create landscapes as a way to reconnect to the natural world. The subjects of my envisioned landscapes: foggy mountains, rolling hills, rocky paths, grassy fields, and majestic skies all have a place within my memory. I dream of these deconstructed landscapes and combine my real memory with dreaming.
I challenge landscape paintings and push them further towards new worlds. A field of yellow flowers becomes a bold yellow shape, or a patch of shaded grass becomes a purple square. By pairing a landscape with this flat pattern, the landscape becomes deeper and more expansive.
These worlds I create with landscapes and patterned shapes are meant to bend perception of a flat surface. The shape pattern is the foundation that rises and directs the eye into my expanding worlds.
